The say-it-out-loud test.

Radio names are heard before they are read. A name a listener can’t repeat after hearing it once in the car is a name they can’t search for. Run every favourite through these four checks before you fall for it.

  1. 01

    Say it, then spell it.

Say the name to someone once and ask them to type it. Any hesitation — “is that with a K?” — costs you listeners who heard you once and tried to find you.

  2. 02

    Check the web address.

Look for the .com, or your country’s domain, before anything else. If it is taken, adding “radio” or your city usually frees it.

  3. 03

    Check the handles.

Search the name on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. You want the same handle everywhere, so listeners find you on the first try.

  4. 04

    Say the tagline after it.

A DJ will say your name and line hundreds of times. If it feels clumsy the tenth time you say it, pick another.

A few useful answers

How does the name generator work?

Tell it what your station plays or who it is for, where it is based if that matters, and the style you want. An AI model writes twelve original names with a tagline each, and every name is checked against the stations listed in the Nobex Radio directory. Press the button again for twelve more.

What does “not used by any station in our directory” mean?

No station in the Nobex Radio directory goes by that exact name. It is a good first filter, not a legal clearance: also search the name online, check the .com or your country’s domain, the social handles you want, and, if you plan to grow, your country’s trademark register.

Should my station name include “Radio” or “FM”?

Either works online. “Radio” tells people what you are when they see the name written down. “FM” sounds like a real station but can confuse people who then look for you on a dial. Many internet stations use a short name plus “Radio” — it is clear, and the web address is easier to get.

What makes a good radio station name?

Say it out loud once to a friend and ask them to type it. If they spell it right, it passes. Short, sayable, no clever misspellings, no numbers that could be words, and nothing that ties you to one show or one DJ if the station may outgrow them.

Can I use a name that another station already has?

Avoid it. Listeners searching for you will find the other station, directories may reject a duplicate, and if the other station has a trademark you can be asked to change your name after you have built an audience under it.

Is it really free?

Yes, and no account is needed. When you find a name you like, “Start this station” opens Nobex with the name filled in, so you can put it on air with your own music and a stream URL in a few minutes.
